At Susie Q Skin we want to make sure you have the best lotion for tattoo aftercare possible. All our Susie Q Skin products are gluten free and are designed without gluten based oils or fillers, so anyone with gluten intolerance can feel good using them.
What is Gluten?
According to the famous Wikipedia, “Gluten is a mixture of proteins found in wheat and related grains, including barley, rye, oat, and all their species and hybrids.” Gluten is used in foods and in skincare products to maintain viscosity and to help soften and condition the skin. Wheat germ oil is the easiest skin care ingredient for us to recognize, but there are other ingredients that can contain gluten.
Can I Have a Reaction from Gluten in my Skin Care?
According to dermatologist Dr. Sam Bunting, “The guidance for those who suffer from celiac disease (which is severe gluten intolerance) is to avoid swallowing any cosmetic that contains gluten - so toothpaste or lip balm might be the most likely sources in terms of personal care products.”
It is highly unlikely that you will swallow enough lip balm to have a gluten reaction (that would be some serious lip balm consumption) but the possibility of gluten induced reactions to skin care is real.
How Do I Avoid it in Tattoo Aftercare Lotion and Soaps?
Tattoos are open wounds. The way you care for your tattoo immediately after, and for the lifetime of your tattoo can drastically affect the end result. Using all-natural tattoo aftercare products such as our Ink Oil and Ink Salve, which use natural and organic butters and oils, is an ideal way to heal your skin.
Gluten free is not just a tagline or a trendy phrase here at Susie Q. We have family members that are deathly allergic to gluten and cannot use or consume any gluten without becoming very ill. We created these products for our loved ones first. That’s why we use the highest quality ingredients. Organic, natural, and gluten-free are a lifestyle for us.
